Nationally Registered Paramedics

The training level of the paramedic is the highest pre-hospital emergency medical care certification attainable. Certification requires approximately 1,000 hours in clinical didactic course work beyond the previous levels of EMT training. The SMS paramedics are skilled, advanced emergency care providers who specialize in the advanced management of patients in acute and critical situations.

Paramedic skills include, but are not limited to:

Cardiac monitoring and EKG interpretation
External cardiac pacing
Defibrillation and cardioversion
Intravenous therapy
Intravenous and parenteral drug administration
Thrombolytic therapy
Advanced airway management
Endotracheal intubation
Obturator airways
Emergency cricothirotomy
Chest decompression

The paramedic has broad-based knowledge of human systems, anatomy and physiology, emergency pharmacology, psychiatric crises, hazardous materials, and medical/legal documentation.
